Waddesdon Greenway

Waddesdon Greenway is a walking and cycling route that runs between Waddesdon and Aylesbury Vale Parkway railway station. The route was completed in September 2018 and has been hugely successful, with over 160,000 trips recorded in 2020. In the coming months, plans are in place for Waddesdon Parish Council and Haddenham and Waddesdon Community Board to plant trees and hedges along the route; this will include a new community orchard.

It is:

• 3 metres wide
• set in a landscape of trees and hedges
• lit with solar stud lighting

It was introduced as part of the overall Buckinghamshire Greenway to:

• encourage more people to walk and cycle
• improve air quality
• improve public health
• reduce congestion

The greenway opened in 2018 but it didn’t have a link to the village centre, with cyclists needing to travel via Warmstone Lane and the A41. We have added an extension to the route, connecting it to the centre of Waddesdon.

The extension starts on School Lane and continues along the fence behind Waddesdon Schools’ playing fields, where we are adding a community orchard. The path then follows the edge of the pine wood and continues through the woodland to Warmstone Lane and on to Waddesdon Greenway.

The distance between Aylesbury Town Centre and the end of Waddesdon Greenway is 5.6 miles (9 kilometres).

This would take on average:

• 30 minutes to cycle
• 1 hour and 50 minutes to walk

The distance between Aylesbury Vale Parkway Station and School Lane would take on average:

• 16 minutes to cycle
• 1 hour and 5 minutes to walk

We worked with the Waddesdon Estates, Waddesdon Schools and the charity Greenways & Cycleroutes (who supported the delivery of Waddesdon Greenway and Haydon Hill cycleway) to develop the new 800 metre extension.

It has been funded by:

• Section 106 contributions from developers
• funding from the Department for Transport
